Happy Birthday, Gay Carrington!

It's October 19, Dolldom's beloved Gay Carrinton's brithday. And just like our editors have done every year since making her acquaintance, here is Dolldom's tribute to the star of Bates Motel and other classic films. This year, Dolldom's gifted Miss Carrington with a day of beauty at Bobby Taylor's Pink Bubbles Spa and a fabulous new dress by Liz Cole for Retros. And Gay, elated, posed for our photographers with her lush lashes and sensational new hairstyle.

It's Gay Carrington's birthday! And Dolldom celebrates her day. Miss Carrington, may your day be filled with gaiety and love.

For these photos, Miss Carrington chose a Liz Cole hand beaded design in peach satin, StrayCat bangle and earrings, and vintage Puerto Rican maracas.

A Very Gay Birthday

Yesterday, Saturday, October 19, was Gay Carrington's birthday. To mark the event, Dolldom surprised Miss Carrington with an impromptu cocktail gathering of some of her Hollywood friends.
Miss Carrington, who has been busy with shoots, was not planning nor expecting any celebrations.



"I just went out and got myself some pretty things: a new pair glasses and a gorgeous necklace. All in gold - exquisite substance in which my weight is worth."

As Miss Carrington came out of make-up, ready to shoot a highly dramatic scene for a still secret project, a resounding and harmonious "Happy Gay Day!" erupted from behind the Klieg lights.



Almost everyone was there! Madge Francis, the Osborne Twins, Madra Lord... and her young sailor escort. Gay received air kisses and best wishes with an ice cold Martini in hand. Madra coveted her beautiful red dress. "Retros, darling, Retros!"

And then it was time for gift giving!

The Osborne Twins, who were Gay's childhood neighbors and her first adolescent crush, gifted the gifted actress with a vintage Bakelite cherry set. Gay was elated to have her cherries back, as she had lost them in one of her many moves across the country. Gay toasted the romantic gesture with a double Manhattan.



Madra and Madge presented Gay with a très luxe set dripping with gold beads and Colombian emeralds, and a glass of Veuve de Clicquot.



Yet, the finest moment came when the sailor escort pulled out a black velvet box. A long time Gay fan, Madra's sailor escort explained is a most humble voice that he had really wanted to give Gay a pearl necklace, but Madra insisted on keeping that special offering. Nonetheless, le bling that the handsome lad chose for Miss Carrington was truly magnificent - a diamond and citrine set that sparkled like the most magical feux d'artifice.



Gay was touched, yet she saved her tears for the upcoming dramatic scene still to be filmed.

The gentlemen - who called themselves The Gay Boys - begged to stay behind and watch as Miss Carrington emoted for the camera. With such a special audience, the solo scene only took a take, so the happy quartet left together to continue to enjoy the evening in some of the funnest spots in West Hollywood.

The Night Nurse

Gay Carrington is a woman torn - by love and vocation- in her latest melodrama, The Night Nurse, also starring Trent Osborne, on loan from Monolithic Studios. Playing lovesick triplets, Mr. Osborne follows Bette Davis' tour de force in Dead Ringer. But The Night Nurse is Miss Carrington's movie. It takes an actress of her caliber and expertise to interpret a character of such emotional complexity as Lola Folley, a cocktail lounge singer who decides to redirect her talents by caring for the sick while singing to them. Miss Carrington could not look more the professional nurse in her stiff white cotton uniform designed by Liz Cole for Retros.

With lushly orchestrated ballads such as "Heart Healer", "Operation Affection", and "Bed Bath Blues", The Night Nurse is bound to become a cinematic classic and an all time hit for the charismatic Miss Carrington. Dolldom anticipates many special sing-along showings of this movie at The Castro Theater.

The Wonderful World of Color

What are you doing New Year's Eve? Dolldom hopes your soirée is safe and above all fun, just like one of ours a couple of years ago....when a black and white New Year's Eve party ended up being full of color.

Back in 1952, Madra Lord and her gal pal Gay Carrington decided to enliven the party at Monolithic Studios by arriving terribly late and causing a commotion of color...for the invitation clearly said black and white gala attire only.


The mood immediately changed when Madra Lord and Gay Carrington arrived in Retros by Liz Cole and jewelry by Joy Jarred.


"Where's the bar? I'm awfully thirsty." Miss Lord needed serious irrigation and went directly for libations.


Gay Carrington followed suit. "Never mind the onlookers, dahling!" - she whispered to her fiery redheaded friend.


And the story ended in the inevitable way. Trent Osborn captivated by the color and sass of the terrific twosome headed directly to where the action was. And the rest, dear friends, is history.  1953 ended up being a very colorful year.

And isn't that what we all wish for 2013?
