Returning the Favor

When The Muses line by JAMIEshow Doll debuted in 2022, the concept of a hand painted, resin, fashion BJD in the 1/6 scale realized. The first waves of fashions, designed by Owensu, focused lavishly on haute couture fantasy and, in Dolldom's view, left a gap for styles that would lend themselves functional for the streets of reality.  As the models needed clothing to perform their inherent duty, fashions made by Integrity Toys for their various lines of coded-as-male dolls became the building blocks for some successful styling opportunities.

Fast forward to 2025 and the latest JAMIEshow Muses collection, titled "Garden Party", offers two great options (Look 15 and Look 19) not only for wearing as designed, but also for their mix-and-match potential. As planning proceeded for this entry, Dodlldom's resident Muses' models decided to invite Integrity Toys' NU.Face No. 1 Lukas Maverick to be the model as a gracious gesture of gratitude. A perfect collab, we shall add.

No. 1 Lukas Maverick comes from Integrity Toys' latest convention with a silver buzz cut that complements an effective-because-it-is minimal face-up that allows the strong sculpt to do all the talking.

Lukas arrived in the classic Pierre DeVries "High Elite" mechanic's jumpsuit. 

Look 15's khaki shorts, tank top, and cap define urban chic. "Enchanted" Daniel digs the vibe.

Switching the cap for the look's motorcycle jacket and sunglasses pumps up the drama. 

A quick change using Look 19's trousers gives the jacket and cap options for evening. 

Look 19's grey trouser and vest pair well with the look's beige loafers. "Dangerous Love" Daniel approves. 

 Look 19's classic beige coat exemplifies pièce de résistance. "Moments of Joy" Daniel plans on wearing it too.

The New Blonde

Much has been written about Alfred Hitchcock's obsession with the blonde actresses who starred in many of his films: Grace Kelly, Kim Novack, Janet Leigh, Eva Marie Saint, Tippi Hedren...all of them were meant to exemplify mysterious sophistication via their hair shade.  The result: a body of work integral to the history of cinema populated by blonde characters. We at Dolldom dare to ask: was it all due to unresolved childhood issues and untreated misogyny? You be the judge.


The Hitchcock blonde, reserved, cold, ambiguous, walks alone along Fort Point, beneath The Golden Gate Bridge...

Who plays the cliched blonde in this recreation? Well, there's even more drama to this story.

"Making an Entrance Karolyn Stone" was to many the disappointing NuFace doll given out at the Long Beach Cinematic Integrity Convention as the convention doll, a spot usually given to Agnes Von Weiss dressed in a Jason Wu original. As a result of this daring company move, the new character in the line, dressed in what could be summed up as a most geometric black gown with protective face mask, became almost immediately persona non grata for her wide face, high forehead, and hairstyle.

 

But her wide face (a mesaure of her generosity of spirit) , high forehead (clear metaphor for intelligence) , and hairstyle (simple, no fuss) were, in essence, the features that Dolldom's editors saw in Miss Stone as pluses, not negatives. Behold a quintessential Integrity Toys' character sculpt (translation: not an idealized beauty) with a to-scale chignon, one whose style allows her the flexibility to model both contemporary as well as vintage fashions. In short, the perfect doll to bring forth a new era of blonde heroines.



As The New Blonde, Karolyne Stone is a woman in possession of herself and her image. To prove the point, Miss Stone took charge of the production of this feature: from choosing the wardrobe to photographing the spread herself. Miss Stone explains: "When The New Blonde decides to expose her back is not because she is playing to anyone's fantasy but, because as a result of her physical training and conditioning, she can guard it herself. Sorry Hitch, now the blonde does her own thing.

I am blonde, hear me roar!


Miss Stone is the bridge between the old and the new. In her Katy Keene suit by Integrity Toys and a stole by Retros, she breaks into the scene and gives The Golden Gate a run for the money.

A well-defined back, developed in many a kick-boxing session, takes center stage in a remarkably vintage-inspired cocktail dress by R&D Exclusives.


Miss Stone put together this ensemble of black turtleneck by Integrity Toys and mermaid skirt by Mattel as her version of traditional men's black tie wear.

She's Gonna Start A Revolution

"The Face of 66" as Twiggy was called in The Daily Express has become ingrained in our collective conscious and subconscious. Which is why when Integrity Toys released "She's Not There" Poppy Parker, Dolldom took notice.

Iconic looks, such as the one championed by Lesley Hornby, provide the opportunity to revisit a sensational time and place in fashion history.




 It all starts with the hairstyle. Integrity Toys got it right.

Operation: Action Hero

What to do when the man doll arrives with a factory flaw? A rubbed spot from paint not yet dry. Find someone with an airbrush? Or go bold and have the man doll flocked à la Action Man and G.I. Joe? Dolldom chose the later to impart a "Men's Club" Trent Osborn doll (from the very last Gene Convention hosted by Integrity Toys) with the vigor and life force required to excel as Monolithic Studios man's man.

The idea of giving Trent a full head of flocked hair is not new as at the aforementioned convention, Alain Tremblay, marketing wiz at Integrity Toys, created a limited (ninety-one) number of Trent Osborn dolls flocked by him. Named "A Man's Do," the dolls were only available for purchase at Mr. Tremblay's flocking seminar at the Gene Marshall 15th Anniversary Celebration Convention in June 2010.

Mr. Tremblay went all out and did what is know in the business as electro-static flocking. No flat glued-on flocked fibers for Trent, no! Mr. Tremblay gave Trent the look of vintage G.I. Joe - fresh out of the box and a signed certificate of authenticity. Sadly, Integrity Toys does not produce Mel Odom's Gene Marshall anymore. What to do?

Ray Cairo of Flock Concepts is the man to go in the USA for professional electro-static flocking. Although primarily serving the G.I. Joe/Action Man community of collectors, Mr. Cairo also accepts commissions for other types of action figures that are in need of hair help.










Dolldom wishes to thank Mr. Cairo for his professionalism, incredibly fast turnover, and exacting hand. Thanks to Flock Concepts, Trent Osborn is able to escape a life of cap and hat wearing and be a full-fledged action hero type!

Natural Man

Summertime... and the living is easy. Longer days and shorter eves, mostly warm, sometimes surprisingly cool, lead fashionable gentlemen outdoors to seek contact with the elements. Since in fashion as in nature, it's only the fittest who survive, these styles transform and adapt to meet the demands of any urban jungle.


Dynamite Girl's "All American" Auden is Dolldom's resident botanist. He heads out to classify ferns in a light wool vest and cuffed shorts and an off-white cotton short shirt.


For evening, Auden may button up, add a bow-tie and join his colleagues for shots of single malt whiskey at the local pub.


Summer is not the time to grow a beard.


A good haircut is de rigueur. No time to waste fixing one's locks. 


The cordovan leather boots add a retro touch to the Auden's style and anticipate the look for fall footwear trends. 


Darius Reid is Dolldom's resident ornithologist. As such he gets up at dawn and heads into the forest while the sun is waking up. To ward off the early morning chill, he wears his "High and Mighty" faux skin coat with satin lapels.




 Once the sun begins to warm the land, Darius will study the flight patterns of hawks in well-fitted jeans and a cotton shirt with attached cravatte.


A shaven head benefits from protection from the sun. A cap is a good idea even amidst the branches of centenary redwoods.


As day turns to eve, Darius will meet a bird of beautiful plumage for dinner. Style and function is provided by these elegant two-tone lace-up shoes.
