Dolldom has been lucky to discover in its archives a vintage photographic portfolio of New York socialite Yvonne Augusta Monmouth Winthrop, heiress of the famed five-and-dime store fortune S.P. Coolworthy and benefactress of this blog's costume department.

In these recently discovered photos, Ms. Winthrop posed for photographer Manuel de Campo y Prado in fashions by Balenciaga and LizRetros.

Glamour Puss Redefined: Hollywood Canteen Ivy Jordan

The spotlight is on Miss Ivy Jordan! The talented actress is mostly known for her savvy comebacks and perfect comedic timing. Yet, sometimes society falls trap to a silly dichotomy: wit and sex-appeal may not always come together harmoniously. To challenge this assumption and to regale our readers' eyes,  Dolldom had the honor of hosting Mel Odom's Miss Ivy Jordan in her "Hollywood Canteen" iteration as manufactured by JAMIEShow Dolls. The results of the fun modeling session are but pat one of a series of entries celebrating the beauty of Miss Jordan and several of her Monolithic Studios' colleagues.
Today we feature Miss Ivy Jordan, Glamour Puss. As a blonde (very platinum) Miss Jordan's deep indigo blue eyeshadow pops and her deep red lips (that pout - so Garbo!) exude you-can't-kiss-me attitude. Who knew? Here she is: Miss Ivy "Vee" Jordan, ultimate glamour puss.


In Marlena's wig, restyled by hairstylist extraordinaire Kathy Johnson, Miss Jordan models her "Hollywood Canteen" skirt and Gene's "Promenade" blouse by Tim Kennedy.


"Hollywood Canteen" Ivy Jordan's fashion consists of two separate pieces that expand the mix-and-match possibilities. The blouse is shown in this photo accompanied by the skirt from "Afternoon Off" designed by Doug James. Ivy loves her platinum grey wig issued on "Hollywood Canteen" Gene Marshall.

Curves for days! In Liz Cole's in-the-jungle vintage raw silk gown, Miss Jordan will make the ultimate star entrance. Wig restyled by Kathy Johnson.


Goddess! In Timothy Alberts, "Blue Evening", Vee is nothing short of stunning. A rare beauty, indeed.

Inimitable Ivy

Mel Odom's Gene Marshall inhabits a richly detailed world. Miss Marshall revolutionized the fashion doll market in the mid 1990s with her larger size, abundantly accessorized fashions created with immense attention to detail, furniture, jewelry, and hat sets, even a gazebo. But in all truth, Miss Marshall's world is unmatched by the diverse number of friends and associates that share her adventures. One of these OOAK personalities is Ivy Jordan. Miss Jordan first came into the scene in Mr. Odom's beautiful Gene Marshall, Girl Star published by Hyperion Press. In this entertaining tome filled with illustrations by Mr. Odom and jaw-dropping photos by Steven Mays, a captivating illustration by Mr. Odom appeared - Ivy Jordan. Since then, collectors and fans of the Monolithic Studios gang had been clamoring for her realization in doll form.

And while Gene was being produced by Integrity Toys, the dream became reality. From her introduction:

"Meet Ivy Jordan, Gene Marshall’s wise-cracking best friend, always one with a punch-line or witty observation. A child of Hollywood with both of her parents in ‘the biz’. Ivy, or “Vee” as Gene nicknamed her, is Gene’s truest friend and closest ally in Hollywood. A character actress with an eye towards directing someday, Ivy Jordan is a girl to watch."

At the beginning of 2016, Miss Jordan made her reappearance after a brief hiatus this time in her JAMIEshow ball-jointed, smooth resin form. Needless to say, "Heart of Hollywood"  Ivy Jordan was an instant sell-out.

Dolldom ponders on the characters attributes that pull so adeptly at our collective heartstrings. Is it her more angular features? Her prominent nose? Her bedroom eyes? Or the fact that she is such a perfect recreation of Mr. Odom's artwork? What gives, really? Ivy Jordan is Ivy Jordan and she stands tall in this exclusive Dolldom feature.
