Oh, It Looks Like Daniel

JAMIEshow Doll and The Muses line have introduced a character coded-as-male called Daniel. And he is a star. Based on  the 16-inch iconic Lee, also by JAMIEshow Doll, Dangerous Love Daniel is -to cut to the chase- a hunk. The handsome face (in Dolldom's opinion, Daniel / Lee is the most handsome representation of an Asian male countenance with a serene gaze, strong nose, and pulpous lips) has translated beautifully to 1/6 scale and adjustments to the body sculpt, such as more defined pectoral muscles, convey an undeniably strong physicality. Detailed hands and feet (both with separate digits) allow for the wearing of rings and sandals.

The Muses line, designed by OwenSu, offers an inspired selection of couture to make the Muses realize their fashion model destinies. Still Dolldom invited Dangerous Love Daniel to play and style a series of looks with elements taken from Integrity Toy's Fashion Royalty Hommes, The Monarchs, and NuFace lines. Daniel was glad that the fit was excellent every time and no alterations were required. This said, the JAMIEshow Doll Muses' foot sculpt is a tad bigger making shoe fitting minimally more laborious but still possible.

Dolldom looks forward to the future of this line for it's exciting to find 1/6 dolls coded-as-male as beautifully rendered (in velvety, matte resin and with hand painted face-ups and body blushing) as Daniel. At its 450.00 dollar price point, Daniel is a high-end acquisition that is worth every cent.

Wish list? Absolutely. Dolldom gives kudos to JAMIEshow Doll and OwenSu for their commitment to diversity and is hopeful that in the very near future a coded-as-male Black doll character will join the ranks of The Muses. Additionally, a selection of boots and thong sandals, along with separates to mix-and-match would enhance the play possibilities of these remarkable creations.

Ultra Riche, Ultra Nouveau

The saga of Joey Versaw's muses continues with a new and exciting line titled "Nouveau Riche".

Being “Framed” for a crime of which they weren’t guilty brought a new stirring, an inner awakening in Miss Mary and Monday. To fill a void that the emotional journey had left in them, Monday and Miss Mary unknowingly invoked the goddesses of greed and vanity.

Monday represents the Goddess of Vanity holding her Art Nouveau mirror so she can gaze at herself. Monday wears a silver striped bodysuit, a gorgeous sheer Grecian inspired gown, a sheer flowing wrap, silver shoes, a flower choker, and a Da Vinci-inspired hard sculpted wig.

Mary represents the Goddess of Greed clutching her Art Nouveau purse in antique copper. Mary wears a green/blue iridescent bodysuit, a sheer robe, a jeweled belt, copper high heels, a flowered choker, and Inspired by a famous piece of Nouveau jewelry a Dragonfly head piece to top off her look.

Complementary Styles

Saturn and Jupiter by Marmite Sue make their second appearance in a study of contrasts: Jupiter's set for cold weather adventures while Saturn exemplifies warm weather comfort. Regardless of which style or clime, the men of Marmite Sue inspire with their confidence and gender code-breaking fashion attitude.

Jupiter styled his look using pieces from Tyler Wentworth's archives: angora sweater, cotton-knit pants, and a faux leather and fur long coat.

The Return of D.A.E.'s Vivian and Monty: Miniquins Are Go!

Dolldom's fascination with dolls is very much due to the impact of Gerry Anderson's Supermarionation figures. Filled with the oddness of the object inanimate that nevertheless shows signs of life, characters such as Captain Scarlett or Lady Penelope, created a deep feeling of cognitive dissonance. Are they or aren't they?

Although fashion dolls do not speak and gesture (yet) as these Supermarionation beings did, they still provide the dollector with an opportunity to explore their dynamic stillness and expressive silence. Because they do not respond in the manner of things animate, we make every effort to establish an eloquent form of communication with these representations of ourselves. We imagine that such may be the case too for collectors of full-size fashion mannequins. Which brings us to the fabulous dolls of this entry.

D.A.E. Originals created Vivian the Miniquin in 2002 and Monty the Miniquin joined the line in 2005. With a storyline that delves deeply into alternate forms of consciousness, Vivian and Monty opened up a world where we, humans, were the ones not capable of perceiving their activity. Both dolls were frank about their inanimate nature - they were mannequins at Diamonds Department Store - but that did not stop them from having complex emotional lives.

20 years later, D.A.E. Originals brings back Vivian and Monty at their most uncanny: articulated and glass eyed, the mannequin pair is more suggestive of mystery than ever. And BECAUSE they do not move autonomously or speak in ways audible to the human ear, they draw us in even more into their supposedly still world.

The new collection, titled Romance Reborn, is a gorgeous offering of ultra limited resin ball-jointed dolls. Elaborate fashion sets are limited to 6, while dolls are limited to 15 of each hair color.

In this Dolldom entry, Vivian and Monty invite you to join them on an excursion of their world: the fabulous windows of Diamonds Department Store, where the perceived stillness of their poses cannot deny the dynamism of their intentions.
