In Italia

Anouk, the fashion doll by Nav Sikand, debuted her Série 5 last May 2021. Inspired by vintage Furga Alta Moda dolls from the late 1960s, this latest collection continues to provide Anouk with a fantastic wardrobe and unique accessories to enrich her display. The fashion booklet, illustrated by Brazilian artist Dilhermando de Assis, is pure vintage fun.

The ordering process allows the collector to have a say in the way that their dolls will look, as Sikand generously allows customers to select  both doll and outfit. This exclusive entry features Dolldom's mix-and-match choices.

Shiny, Happy (Doll) People

The doll world is full of shiny happy people. Doll play inspires, relaxes, and takes us away, even if momentarily, to spaces of happiness. And during times like these, such a space is a necessity.

Sarah Feris, creative collector and innovative designer of 1/6 doll fashions is perhaps one of the best examples of the shiny, happy doll lover. And her creations, like a flower bomb, are redolent of these bright, positive emotions. Palpable joy in a dolly garment, you ask? Exactly!

Dolldom was captivated by Feris’ offerings on e-Bay. Made with prints reminiscent of 60s textile super stars Vera Neumann and Lilli Pullitzer, the fashions carry humor, saturated color, and undeniable chic.

Feris selects fabrics mostly by her reactions to color and visual textures. “I've had a great amount of time on my hands during quarantine for COVID-19 and have wanted to produce something to help pass the days and manage stress; doll work has been very helpful, Ferris explains, and, while I started making the fashions to pass my quarantine time, I wanted to share the fashions with others as a happy, no-pressure way of uplifting those who may be stressed out these days.”

Feris' memories of the Barbie Fashion Avenue and Barbie Fashion Fever lines inspire her to list at a similar price point. “I didn't want to poach any customers away from other fashion makers, Feris adds, so I kept an eye to doing bold and simple fashions that are obviously play clothes.”

Unabashedly partial to the Anouk doll by Nav Sikand, Feris loves everything about her, “her shapes, the stylized and adaptable look to her face, the feel in both texture and weight that she carries. Anouk lacks so much inherent social drama that she just encourages beauty and play.”

Feris is excited for her upcoming Fall offerings. September will feature transitional colors in an end-of-harvest color palette. And to keep her collectors happy, she will offer different designs each month. “Gentle, playful, joyful fun!”, she adds with a smile.

A Visit with Anouk

Anouk, la poupée mannequin by Nav Sikand, visits Dolldom once again, this time, to enjoy posing for the camera leisurely, with no other purpose but to have fun modeling her finely crafted fashions.

As confusion and stress seep into our days, redressing and contemplating the beauty of a fashion doll is a sure fire way to find delightful relaxation. And Anouk, in any of her varied looks, brings, along with her soothing presence, a sincere invitation to play.

A Very Virtuous Girl

With one look at Nav Sikand's pretty Anouk in her "Series Three" iteration, one could easily conclude that she is an unequivocal representation of virtuous innocence. Yet, to enlighten our understanding and eliminate these superficial perceptions, Dolldom went right to the source - the doll maker himself.

Dolldom: Is Anouk a metaphor for purity and goodness?

Mr. Sikand: Anouk is full of optimism for the future with her life and many adventures ahead of her. I feel that in these turbulent and dark times we live in, there is something very important and appealing about things that remind us of a simpler and relatively easier time of life. I try to project this positivity through Anouk and the context in which I present her. I wish Anouk to be a symbol of simpler and more hopeful times. This said, "Series Three" features some changes that make Anouk different. The major change is her mouth, which is a much darker and vivid fuchsia pink and a Bardot-esque pout, which gives Anouk a slightly sultry look. Still, she remains a charming gamine.

Close toYou

Why do birds suddenly appear
Every time you are near?
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you

Why do stars fall down from the sky
Every time you walk by?
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you

A Hopeful Type of Girl

La poupée mannequin Anouk continues to expand her world of fashion and fun. Her creator, Mr. Nav Sikand, shared news of her "Series Three" with Dolldom and we could not be happier to present the new and very fashionable "En vacances" collection. The concept is that Anouk, a French girl, in high school in London, is on her first tour of Europe and the clothing and doll designs are meant to evoke the glamour and excitement of her life.

Mr. Sikand explains: "Anouk "Series Three", while continuing in the classic tradition of Anouk as a re-imagining of a 60s toy, also sees a significant updating of the doll. Her sculpt and production remain the same, but her facial screening is very different. Her brows have been darkened and extended considerably. The blues of her eyes are more contrasting. The major change is her mouth, which is a much darker and vivid fuchsia pink. Anouk also has a Bardot-esque pout, giving her a slightly sultry look. Though she remains the charming gamine that all of her fans love. Anouk has two new hairstyles and hair shades: a side-part do and a top-knot ponytail and a new raven black and a platinum blonde with silver highlights. "Series Three" also marks the return of the long-haired Titian Anouk, absent from "Series Two". The black dolls also now sport the new raven shade."

As for Anouk's message, Mr. Sikand adds: "I feel that in these turbulent times in which we live, there is something very important and appealing about things that remind of a simpler and relatively easier time of life. I try to project this optimism through Anouk and the context in which I present her."

Dolldom agrees that dolls like Anouk can bring enjoyment, solace, and delight to those lucky to collect them.
