A Grand Occasion

 Mel Odom's Gene Marshall turns 30 this year and to celebrate the occasion, United Federation of Doll Clubs is holding a lunch-and-learn event at their headquarters in Kansas City on April 5, 2025. Dolldom is honored to contribute to this gala party with a celebratory presentation meant to convey our love and appreciation for the gal who made collecting fashion dolls fun again! 

As a tribute to Miss Marshall, Odom, and our readers who may not be at the event, here's Dolldom's tribute to the star who made collectors' eyes shine once again! Here's to Gene Marshall!

It's a cinch to look smart when you have as many things going for you as Gene does in this sensational black satin dress. Puffed bell sleeves tapering to a fitted ¾-length cuff just below the elbow echo the blouson bodice and taper to a tiny belted waist, atop the trim skirt. The real action is the killer choirboy neckline, featuring three matching buttons that fasten up to a full, pussycat bow at the throat. These stylish kitty's ears are tailored in emerald green felt and worn at an angle atop Gene's chapeau du jour. The cat theme continues with a handbag of stenciled leopard in an exaggerated print. Wrapped ankle ties on the black, sling back pumps and matching, elbow length gloves are the finishing touches on this city kitty's sleek look. Knockout emeralds set in gold at the ears match the hat and proclaim Gene the queen of the urban jungle for the day. Dolldom extends the pleasures of playing with Mel Odom's characters as manufactured by JAMIEShow with a short entry evoking the look of a thriller. Although not in black and white, the film wants to be noir and as such, contains all the elements of a good crime flick: shadows (lots of these), a detective  with guns (in this case, they are under Trent Osborn's jacket), and of course, a femme fatale ( played by Oona).

The wardrobe is important too to convey who these characters are. Mr. Osborn's pinstripe suit by JAMIEShow says it all. No fedora needed with this light wool three pirce wonder, tailored exclusively for Mr. Osborn. Oona needs little help expressing beauty, seduction, and impossible attainability, yet, Dolldom goes all out selecting a figure-hugging sparkling strapless gown by Liz Cole for Retros and jewelry by Joy Jarred.

Modeling Tim Kennedy's New Look-inspired "Personal Secretary" dress, Mel Odom's Oona, produced by JAMIEshow, is an exemplary illustration of mid-century elegance. The circa-1957 grey taffeta dress boasts the lines that defined feminine elegance and sober glamour. 



A Christian Dior creation from the same period validates Oona's belief in the power of this unforgettable style
