One of the joys of fashion doll collecting is sourcing genuine couture for dolls. When said couture is made with an inspired, playful vision of vintage 1960s styles and constructed with jaw-dropping precision by a supremely talented artist, then, one has hit the jackpot!

For this exclusive summer entry featuring Wilde Imagination's Patience doll, Diana Lemieux, creator and designer of the incredibly luxurious Matilda Pink label, produced an exquisite collection of fashions that celebrates saturated color, lush fabrics and embellishments, and precise tailoring, all imbued with a Mod London vibe.

The unique Patience, who was most often issued wearing classic storybook character costumes, is transformed into a bona fide fashion doll in Matilda Pink's designs. Not unlike the iconic Blythe, Patience's generously proportioned head, expressive flirty eyes, and highly articulated body yield a charming fashion model that is ready to make a come-back and take the fashion world by storm. In Matilda Pink's designs, Dolldom is sure that that will happen.

Perfecting Patience

 

Wilde Imagination's darling "Perfect Patience" doll is a sight to behold! With her big chocolate brown eyes, this carrot head is nothing but fun. And to prove that fashion dolls come in all shapes and sizes, Dolldom's editors invited "Perfect Patience" to play a game of make-believe. What if...? What if "Perfect Patience"...? And our cute button-nosed friend happily went along with the rêverie.

In her "Perfect Patience" lace over ivory satin dress with pantaloons, Miss Patience shows off her restyled hair.


Free of ribbons, the beautiful and silky red mane sports a classic little girl look with bangs. 


For a Victorian feel, Agnes models Agnes Dreary's "Another Dreary Day" dress. Patience loved the tiny flower print. Can you spot her favorite doll in this photo? No, it's not the "Twinkie" doll by Marx to her left. 


For a Spring-like feel and most cheerful attitude, a pink hand-knit sweater and skirt set by Liz Cole for Retros is perfect for "Perfect Patience."


But since it's never too early to start thinking about next Halloween, Patience selects another hand-knit set by Retros, this time in black with multicolored designs.


To close the mini fashion show... no, not a weeding dress fantasy for Miss Patience! Instead, "Perfect Patience" demonstrates her love for the dramatic by wearing Viktor Dreary's "Maestro" suit! "I'm conducting tonight!,"  she says, "the overture to Candide by Mr. Bernstein!"

Brava, Patience, brava! And bravo to Wilde Imagination too for creating this flirty-eyed tyke made for enjoyable play and fanciful photography.

Piccola Monalisa

Mid-century design, you say? Nothing beats a doll from that period as today's story is bound to prove. A recent antiquing find, our flirty-eyed Bonomi bambola is a real 1950s treat. Made in Italy of painted Rhodoid (the trade name for a cellulose acetate plastic made by May & Baker Ltd. in England) our 18-inch lass is full of character and perhaps a good dash of mystery.

Monalisa, as she was named by our editors, came wearing a coral colored jumper over a playful tutti-futti print blouse with attached organza petticoat. The blouse's collar is a separate piece that closes in front with a hook and eye. A blue apron with patches allows her to paint, make-believe-cook, and tend to her baby and keep her dress spotless. Her golden leather sandals hint to her penchant for glamour. Her human hair wig is styled in an carefree bob with coquettish bangs. Much to our surprise, during the photo session, Monalisa uttered a charming cry! Little did we know she had it in her to be a crier doll too!

But it is her expression and her flirty eyes that capture our collective heart. Depending on the pose, Monalisa's gaze will smoothly travel from left to right giving her the much desired playful character. When she took a nap in between photos, (required by law when working with children) her eyes closed. Yet her smile kept on being, much to our delight. What keeps her so amused? We are still wondering.
