Katarina Carlsson's gift for creating exquisite dolls knows no boundaries. Neither does her generosity. Dolldom recently received this beautiful box tied with a soft pink ribbon. On its cover, one of Katerina's own photos of one of her magical Myling dolls.

Once the little beauty is unbound, an exquisite bed must be fashioned. An antique ironstone serving dish, crazed and creamy, provides an ideal crib. Dried flowers and leaves from autumns long past cushion our little sleeper well.

We shall not wake her...hers is a sleep divine, deep and placid yet not devoid of adventures. Her little frown gives us proof.

To sleep a restful sleep, a sleep that restores the body and the mind, a sleep deep, sweet and revealing.

Boys of Summer

Monty the Miniquin by DAE Originals deserves a second (maybe this is your first) look. A beautifully made vinyl doll, Monty came out along with Vivian the Miniquin in 2005 to the delight of collectors who enjoy the vintage look. Meant to be store mannequins, not real people, Monty and Vivian were issued in styles representative of three decades: 1940's, 1950's, 1960's. Expertly constructed fashions allowed the dolls to fulfill their life mission: be superb clotheshorses. But the truth is that both Monty and Vivian have an allure that has nothing to do with being vacant dummies. They are expressive and alive. Soon to be re-released in resin with fully articulated bodies, the mannequins of Diamonds Department Store will join the growing number of beautiful creatures in Dolldom.

Two Monty the Miniquin samples pulled from the original master molds from the 2005 collection. The one on the left,  displays the #3 Monty head sculpt while the one on the right displays the #2 Monty sculpt. Both dolls feature custom machine rooted saran hair. Both, coiffure and face paint, were created in-studio by hand.

I had the pleasure of photographing this four-inch vintage Japanese doll, circa 1940, for Kiku Imports, one of Dolldom's favorite antique stores.

Manon models in Fashion Doll Agency's on-line magazine. It's an honor to be part of this first issue. Manon models a hooded silk noile cape by "Mode de M" by Mark G. Harris and jewelry by Joy Jarred. Underneath, a Barbie Basic's stretch strapless black dress. On Dolldom's wish list for future acquisitions are Marcella Gala Noir and Manon Collection Noir.

Did You Evah?

American Character's 10 1/2-inch Toni doll was due to have some fun. With the reissuing of Tonner's Little Miss Revlon, Dolldom decided to give the smaller set the opportunity to show what made them so popular in the late 50s, this time around dressed by Retros, purveyors of the very best in cocktail wear. Accompanied by Vogue's Jeff, two Toni gals enjoy a cocktail of happiness or two to the tune of Cole Porter's "Did You Evah?" sung by Debbie Harry and Iggy Pop.

MIKE:
I have heard among this clan,
You are called a forgotten man.

DEXTER:
Is that what they're sayin'?
Well, did you evah!
What a swell party this is!

MIKE:
And have you heard the story of
A boy, a girl, unrequited love?

DEXTER:
Sounds like pure soap opera!

MIKE:
I may cry!

DEXTER:
What a swell party this is!
What frills, what frocks!

MIKE:
What broads!

DEXTER:
What furs, what rocks!

MIKE:
They're beautiful!

DEXTER:
Why, I've never seen such gaiety!

MIKE:
Neither did I!

DEXTER:
It's all just too, too swellegant!

MIKE:
This French champagne...

DEXTER:
Domestic!

MIKE and DEXTER:
So good for the brain!

MIKE:
That's what I was gonna say!

DEXTER:
You know you're a brilliant fellow?

MIKE:
Thank you!

MIKE:
Have you heard that Mimsy Starr...

DEXTER:
Oh, what now?

MIKE:
She got pinched in the Astor Bar!

DEXTER:
Sauced again, hey!
Well, did you evah?

MIKE and DEXTER:
What a swell party this is!

MIKE:
It's great!

DEXTER:
Ah, it's great!

MIKE:
It's grand!

DEXTER:
So grand!

DEXTER and MIKE:
It's wonderland!

DEXTER and MIKE:
Have you heard?
It's in the stars
Next July, we collide with Mars.
Well, did you evah?
What a swell party, swell party, swellegant, elegant party this is!
